RAF WW2 Veteran Prince Albert Jacob saw it as his duty to help to defend Britain in its time of need

Jake, as he is commonly known, will shortly be age 98, very sprightly and still driving his car as he pleases. ‘Give a little and get a little’ is Jake’s motto in facing the journey of life. He firmly believes that, even though life can be a struggle, you can be successful if you are determined to achieve your ambitions. It was quite an experience seeing the war unfold as a teenager and facing the years immediately after where signs were very visible when trying to find accommodation ‘NO DOGS, NO BLACKS, NO IRISH’. However, Jake began to learn that there were some fair minded and genuine people about who were willing to help him to climb the ladder of life. It is important to be mannerly and neighbourly he stated and cannot thank his neighbour enough for obtaining his war medals for him after nearly 80 years. Jake believes he and his wife Mary have been blessed in many ways as he celebrates 76 years of marriage.

Conclusion

Jake has lived a full and successful life. Although he experienced racism on many occasions, especially immediately after the War, he was always steadfast in his belief that tomorrow will be a better day.

Editor’s Note

To be associated and to share the experiences of individuals such as Jake is very wholesome and indeed welcoming. His span of life extends well beyond that of numerous others, but he still remains humble and willing to engage with all generations.
